PROGRAM DETAILS: The summer internship is an opportunity for high school student athletes to explore career paths within Sports Medicine including Athletic Training, Sports Clinic, Physician Assistant, and Physical Therapy. Students will interact with leading medical professionals and gain observational experiences across multiple specialties.
In addition to completing short answer responses, the student is responsible for uploading a copy of their most recent school transcripts. An unofficial copy is acceptable.
LOCATION: This Program will be offered in multiple Ochsner regions including: New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Lafayette. Students will be able to select their preferred program location upon completing the application.
ELIGIBILITY
Student must be current 10th, 11th, or 12th graders. Students must be 16+ years old by the start of the program Interest in Health Sciences Available for full duration of program July 14-18th

Athletic training: Shadow a high school or university athletic trainer on-site at the school treating athletes as injuries happen and pre-existing injuries.
Sports clinic: Shadow a sports medicine physician and staff treating patients in the clinical setting.
Physician Assistant: Shadow a Sports Medicine Physician Assistant and their staff as they treat patients in the clinical setting.
Physical therapy: Shadow shadowing a physical therapist rehabilitating patients in various stages of injury.
Performance training: Shadow a sports performance coach training athletes in multiple ways including weight training, proprioception, and speed.
COVID - 19: Student and patient safety is a top priority. COVID-19 vaccination is a requirement to participate. Students who aren't vaccinated can still participate but will be required to wear a mask for the duration of the program.
